SUMMARY OF THRESHOLD
In this game, you play as a worker at the Border Post, a decaying station high in the mountains. Your main task seems simple: blow a whistle to keep a never-ending train on track. However, life at the Border Post is harsh. The air is thin making it hard to breathe and every action you take feels like it is taking a toll on you. Despite being surrounded by danger and discomfort, your job is to keep the train running smoothly, no matter the cost.
The game is built around the idea that every choice you make affects the outcome but the rules are unclear. You’re told not to speak, run, or look at the train, but you’re also given little details about what’s actually happening. You are constantly pushed to work harder like delivering reports cleaning water filters and collecting wood, while trying to survive in a place where each breath feels like a battle. The only thing that helps you endure is the air canisters you’re given for doing your job well.
Mo, your fellow worker, is a friend who helps you out, but there’s a limit to what he’ll say. He answers your questions except for the ones that are too dangerous to ask. As you move through this semi-linear narrative you will face choices that can change your path the game makes you question the importance of where you come from and whether your actions even matter. In the end life in the Border Post feels unpredictable and full of uncertainty.
