SUMMARY OF THE HUNGRY LAMB
In 1628, during the reign of Emperor Chongzhen, China was a total mess. The country was battling both domestic issues and foreign invaders, all while suffering through the disastrous Little Ice Age. After years of disaster, the Ming court just made things worse with harsh policies that caused widespread starvation, sparking rebellions everywhere.
The story follows Liang a bandit who’s been living a rough life ever since his family lost everything in the Great Tianqi Explosion of 1626. Now he works as a mercenary, taking on jobs for shady people. One day, he’s hired to escort four girls to a rich lord in the city of Luoyang. At first, he thinks they’re just being sold off as adopted daughters. However, one of the girls, Sui, reveals a dark secret. The lord is actually a thousand-year-old swine demon who feeds on young girls every year on his birthday. Sui’s sister was one of his victims and now she wants revenge.
As they travel Liang starts to uncover the truth behind the demon and Sui’s intentions. But the more he learns the less certain he is about who to trust. Is Sui really seeking justice or is she hiding something. Alongside his partner, Tongue, a silver-tongued thief, Liang has to make tough choices, knowing that doing the right thing might come at a high cost.
