Welcome to Scourge Of War – Remastered. Get ready for an epic battle because this game puts you in charge of armies and lets you relive few of the most intense historical fights from the age of regimental warfare. Basically, it’s a real-time command simulation game, and it all started with Sid Meier’s Gettysburg back in 1997.
Sid Meier’s game changed the game—literally—by ditching the old hex grids and dice rolls. Instead, it gave you a 3D battlefield where you could move units around in real time, and you could only pause the action if you needed a break. It even had multiplayer, which was pretty groundbreaking at the time.
Then, in 1998, Sid Meier’s Antietam came out and took things up a notch by adding tricky terrain and new battles. After that, in 2001, Breakaway Games used the same engine to tackle the Napoleonic Wars with Waterloo: Napoleon’s Last Battle. The final chapter of the Sid Meier engine saga was Austerlitz: Napoleon’s Greatest Victory in 2002.
Fast forward to 2005, and we saw Civil War: Bull Run from Mad Minute Games, which kept the spirit of the Sid Meier games but introduced smarter AI and better historical details. The next year, Take Command: 2nd Manassas came out, adding even more battles and winning awards for its accuracy and intensity.
